NC Report Card Letter from Head of School

Welcome to Pine Lake Preparatory and the North Carolina School Report Card
Pine Lake Preparatory prepares individuals in a nurturing environment for leadership and academic success within the kaleidoscope of an engaging community.

The 2008-2009 school year proved to be exciting and rewarding for our students, families, Academic Partners and our greater school community.  As the largest public charter school in North Carolina, we have set a goal of becoming the premier K-12 school in our region and in North Carolina.  The North Carolina School Report Card provides a glimpse of our school community and demonstrates our commitment to reaching our goals within the first five years of our founding in 2006.

Certainly, our recognition as a School of Distinction, in our first year of North Carolina ABC testing demonstrates our Academic Partners’ understanding of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.  Our integration of the internationally recognized, Core Knowledge Curriculum, expands the breadth and depth of the Pine Lake Preparatory Course of Study.   Additionally, Pine Lake Preparatory met 16 of the 16 AYP Goals which is significant for a school with over twelve hundred students in its’ second year.

Our integration of technology provides twenty-first century learning through our wireless campus, and the provision of laptops for all sophomores, juniors, seniors, and Academic Partners. Students in Kindergarten through Ninth Grade access technology via laptops in the classroom, integrating technology across the curriculum.  Our utilization of Accelerated Reader from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade is supported by thousands of books which are available in classrooms, on mobile reading labs, and in classroom literature circles.

A May 2005 study commissioned by Advocates for the Arts revealed that 93% of Americans agree the Arts are vital to providing a well-rounded education for children.  This recognition is supported by current research which verifies the value of the Arts and its relationship to Mathematics, Science, and overall student achievement.  At Pine Lake Preparatory, all students participate in Visual Arts, Music/Chorus, Theatre, or Band. This expansive Fine Arts curriculum contributes to student success in every area. Our Kindergarten – Twelfth Grade Spanish curriculum recognizes the importance of communicating in two or more languages, which is vital to expanding the opportunities for all students in our global environment.

Pine Lake Preparatory is a showcase of inspiration as our students participate in STEM-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math programs and competitions; compete in athletic and team events; contribute to the community through Service Learning; collaborate across grade levels through mentoring and cohort experiences; shine in Fine Arts performances and exhibits; and create a school community where everyone belongs.
