I was born and raised in Altamonte Springs, Florida. My teaching career began in Florida in 2010. Longing for seasons and being closer to the mountains, I moved to Mooresville in 2015. After a few years home raising children, I returned to the classroom in 2023. I am so thankful that I landed at Pine Lake to continue my teaching career. It is truly a special place. When I am not sharing my passion for learning with students, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, working out, and reading.

Heather Achter received her Masters of Fine Arts in Performing Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design where she concentrated on directing and was a moderator for the Savannah Film Festival. She was an adjunct professor at Belmont Abbey College where she also received her BA in History and was a Father John Oetgen Theatre Scholar. She previously taught at Kings Mountain High School and worked with the North Carolina Theatre Conference as a host and member for the Regional High School Play Festival. She also directed for Carolina Actors Studio Theatre and is currently a board member of the NC Theatre Arts Educators. She is very excited about joining the community at PLP.

We moved to Pine Lake in August of 2015 after teaching in the Baltimore area for nine years. Even though we had moved down to the area in order to live on a farm, we didn't make that happen until this past summer. When I'm not teaching English or mowing the acres, I enjoy playing board games, building things, reading, and Xbox. More writing, more reading!

I moved from PA to NC in 2020. I was born and raised in Brazil, I used to be a teacher in my home country for almost 20 years, teaching kids from Kindergarten to Elementary School. Then my family and I moved to Mexico, where I learned to speak Spanish. I love to travel and explore different cultures. My philosophy is "by embracing our differences we can use diversity to learn from one another and promote empathy." I'm so happy to be part of PLP team, and I'm looking forward to exchanging experiences with the students to aid in their growth!

I was born and raised in Colombia. Spanish is my first language. I earned a degree in Physical Therapy. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Cesar, for seventeen years. We have two amazing children, Daniel and Catalina. Prior to working at PLP I worked for five years in various educational settings. Currently, I am in my second year at PLP. My passion is teaching. I hope to inspire and to challenge children to love learning.

I have been teaching strings for 14 years, in both the private studio and public school settings. I believe that music education is a core part of a balanced school curriculum, and that even the youngest of musicians can play an instrument with artistry. When I am not teaching or conducting, I freelance as a cellist throughout the greater Charlotte area and spend time with my husband and children.

I am originally from Brooklyn, NY and moved to Charlotte in 2005. I am a mother of 3 wonderful boys. Nicholas is PLP class of 2015, Marcus is class of 2018. Nicholas graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill in 2019 and Marcus graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2021. Zacharias has been at PLP since kindergarten and is currently a Junior. As a family we love to travel and learn about different cultures. My philosophy in life is as follows: "Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Thank how really precious is the time you have to spend,whether it's at work or with your family. I grew up in California and Texas, but, lived all over the country, and even Guam. I loved my past life of traveling and experiencing the excitement of a new environment every few years, but happy to be here in Mooresville, my forever home. I have 3 amazing kids, grown and on their own. They are my pride and joy.
 
School should be a place students feel free to learn, explore, and socialize without worry of judgement. There is no better place for that than PLP. Fostering a love of reading is my biggest passion. Reading is the key to opportunity and happiness.

It is my belief that every child has the ability to learn and it is my purpose to find the best avenue for their learning. I had a coach once tell me that every day you should learn something new because if you don't others will pass you by in life. I have taken that advice to heart and find different ways to present material and encourage my students to help them build relationships, critical-thinking skills, and learning to cope and respond to adversity.

A positive environment is so important and it is my goal to be a positive influence to our students. I am also a mom of two (almost grown) children. My oldest is in college and my youngest will graduate from high school this year! I will soon be an "empty nester" and am thankful to have the PLP middle school students to interact with.

Originally from Buffalo, NY, I received both of my degrees from the University at Buffalo. Prior to joining the Pine Lake community, I spent 12 years working as a school counselor in nearby school districts. When I am not at school, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family.
