I've been teaching for about 10 years after coming into the field as a second career. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a degree in Biology but ended up working in the 401(K) world for a while before coming to teaching. My first class was for pre-K students and it was called Mad and Messy Science. I eventually settled down into the world of teenagers and love it here. Personally, I've been married to my husband, Brent, for 20+ years and we have 2 teenage daughters (Sarah & Keira), along with 2 cats (Ms. Grace and Bosco) and 2 dogs (Cosmo & Sadie).

As a former competitive cheerleader and dancer, I thrived throughout my high school and college years. My days were filled with school and after school activities. I was always passionate about learning and working hard to be a better student, athlete, and performer. Upon graduation I knew that I wanted to help shape young minds by coaching. After coaching cheerleading and gymnastics for years, I knew that my true passion in life was teaching. I did not find teaching, it found me. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of Pine Lake Prep and share my love of learning with the middle school students. It is my hope to help them find what they are passionate about and excel in all they do.

Grades 6-9 Licensure in ELA
Masters in Education, Secondary Education
I have been teaching ELA for over a decade. I have taught both in person and virtually to students in grades 4-8. Most of my work has been with students in an AIG (academically gifted or Honors) capacity. This means I am trained to work with Project Based Learning and rubrics. I enjoy ELA because it is a chance to expose students to strong literature, writing skills, and non-fiction that challenges them to think and innovate. I am a life-long learner. I enjoy learning new things and connecting students to new ideas and skills. I encourage all students to be their best through meaningful work, thoughtful discussions, and learning opportunities that grow their skills and encourage fun! Pine Lake is a wonderful place to be because of the the students, staff, and parents that make up this great community.

I am so excited to be joining the kindergarten team! I have 13 years experience, 12 of those years teaching first grade. I am a passionate educator who believes every child has something special inside them. I work hard to create a nurturing and loving learning environment that helps students meet their maximum potential. I meet students where they are academically and work hard to provide them lessons and activities to help them grow as a learner. Not only are academics important, but I also provide daily learning opportunities to practice being kind, respectful, and responsible. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, being active, and cooking.

My family and I moved from Los Angeles, California to Huntersville, NC in 2014. We just came for 5 years and here we are, we fell in love with this amazing state. Helping others in need is my passion. I enjoy working at PLP, because I can help students in their Spanish Core classes.

I work in the EC Department here at Pine Lake and I am so glad to be a part of the family. I enjoy working with children, going on vacations, watching movies, and spending time with my family and friends. I believe that all children are capable of learning no matter what obstacle they may be facing.

My husband Matt and I, along with our 2 sons moved to NC in June 2023 from Richmond, Virginia. When I am not teaching you can find me spending time with my family. We really love being together. We enjoy golfing, cheering on our beloved Virginia Tech Hokies and anything involving the water. Teaching is something that I always wanted to do. After a decade in the classroom I took on a new role as an Instructional and Family Engagement Coach to follow my dreams of supporting teachers. While I loved supporting teachers (and still do) I realized after a few years that I wasn't finished being a teacher and having my own students so, I went back to the classroom. I've taught 2nd, 3rd, and 1st grade but 1st is where my heart is. My passion is teaching students to read and LOVE reading. I am super excited to be at PLP and look forward to building many relationships here because I believe relationships are at the heart of what we do as teachers.

Esther Ramos-Gomez
I am originally from Spain and I have lived in the USA since 2010 with my husband and three kids. I believe on the multiple benefits of learning other languages and being exposed to different cultures because it helps us being more empathetic and welcoming. I love when my bilingual students realize how privilege they are to speak a second language and all the new possibilities that open up ahead of them.
Maria Ramos-Perozo
B.A. Spanish
B.S. Business Administration-Accounting
I was born and raised in Venezuela. I moved to the U.S. at the age 19, and lived many years in New Jersey. In 2012 I visited a friend in Charlotte, and I fell in love with its people and weather, and a month later, I moved south. I teach because this is what I love to do. It is a new adventure every time, every class, every student. I want to ensure that language skills and cultural knowledge are always intermingled with each other, because students must understand the culture behind the language to be able to express themselves accordingly and apply it successfully. I want to nourish long life learners who are enthusiastic about learning languages and cultures and expanding their vision of the world.
