8-15-22 Yearbook Photos Schedule
Dear Parent/Guardian:
St. John Photography will be visiting your school to take color individual and class photographs of your children.
Students should wear a navy polo shirt or navy polo dress on their photo day.
If rain is forecast, please assume that any showers will be brief, and pictures will be taken as usual. If the shoot is rescheduled, please bear with us – pictures taken outside are much nicer than ones in front of artificial backgrounds.
There are no up-front fees or obligations to purchase any of the prints. Proofs will be available online for you to view the week after pictures are taken.
St. John Photography has photographed children at many schools in the Charlotte area; and we know you will be pleased with the truly unique images they are able to capture.
Please email St. John Photography at info@stjohnphotography.com

The Carline Email.
Good morning,
As we eagerly approach the start of a new school year I wanted to take a moment to reference the arrival and dismissal times and procedures. Please recognize, it is common for arrival and dismissal to take longer than usual during the first few weeks of school but it will undoubtedly get easier and quicker after a week or two. We will do our best to facilitate a smooth process as we find our collective routine.
Honestly, the biggest variables and barriers to the success of the procedure is the time our families arrive on campus and the location in which you drop off and pick up. We ask that you do your best to arrive at the appropriate times and drop off at the appropriate locations – we will be there to help you navigate once you arrive on campus so please do not allow that to be a stressful process.
You will find the specific arrival and dismissal times/procedures below.
Morning Arrival
-
If you have only Upper School (US) students: Please arrive on campus between 7:05 am – 7:20 am. The building will open at 7:00 am and classes begin at 7:25 am. We ask that you stay in the left lane if possible so that students and staff can easily access parking lots. If you find yourself caught in the right lane (often is the case coming from Davidson), please recognize we have a staff member who will help you merge into the left lane near the ACC. Regardless, give us a smile and a wave.
-
US Students with Lower School (LS) Siblings ONLY: Please arrive on campus between 7:00 am - 7:15 am. Your LS student(s) should be dropped off at the ACC.
-
Lower School Only: Please do not arrive earlier than 7:30 a.m. This arrival time is important so that we may successfully get Upper School families in and out prior to your arrival.
-
Middle School Only: No earlier than 7:45 a.m. This arrival time is important so that we may successfully get the Upper and Lower School families in and out prior to your arrival. All MS students should be dropped off at the front of the Upper School.
-
Middle School with siblings in Upper or Lower siblings: You may arrive at the sibling time slot however, please note: MS doors open at 7:15 a.m. All MS students should be dropped off at the front of the Upper School. MS students without siblings should not arrive until 7:45 am.
Please Note: For safety purposes, all lower school students should exit and enter the car on the driver side. We will not release students or place students from the passenger side of the car.
All MS and US students should be dropped off in front of the Upper School. Do not drop off at the STEM Building, Middle School or Fine Arts parking lots.
Afternoon Dismissal
-
Upper School Students Only: Arrive at or after 2:25 p.m. Please use the outer lane (right) until you get past the line for Kindergarten pickup at the Lower School building, and then move into the inner lane (left).
-
Families picking up Lower School students should be in the left lane when entering campus. If you find yourself caught in the right lane (often is the case coming from Davidson), please recognize we have a staff member who will help you merge into the left lane near the bottom of the hill. Regardless, give us a smile and a wave.
-
Kindergarten ONLY: Arrive at 2:10 p.m., may line up in the inner (left) lane only.
-
Lower School, and Lower School families with US siblings: Arrive no earlier than 2:40 p.m.
Families with Lower School children will continue to utilize PikMyKid to facilitate communication into the classroom for dismissal.
-
Middle School with Lower School or Upper School Siblings: Please do not arrive prior to 3:00 p.m.
-
Middle School ONLY: Please do not arrive earlier than 3:15 p.m. Begin in the outer (right) lane to travel to the Upper School to pick up your Middle School child. As you approach the Lower School, you will then be directed into the inner (left) lane to pick up your child. Please understand that if you arrive prior to 3:00 pm we will direct you back around the loop to avoid congestion. The reality is that if you arrive closer to 3:20 p.m. you should have a relatively easy drive through the loop. Please consider arriving at this time.
I do appreciate your attention and patience. We will closely monitor traffic over the next few weeks and will follow up with any changes we think will improve traffic flow.
Finally, a few important safety notes:
Drivers should not be using cell phones while on campus (unless the car is parked). Our staff and students need your full attention. In addition, please be aware that school buses will drop students off in front of buildings. When they are loading or unloading children, or anytime the stop sign and is out, cars should not attempt to pass the buses.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

8-05-22 Uniform Policy Highlights
Dear Families:
We look forward to seeing students on campus next week.
We wanted to remind, and emphasize a few points about the uniform policy, which was updated July 1, 2022.
While some guidelines have been updated, the overall goal remains the same, which is to ensure a learning environment where clothing is neat and modest, and fitting for “professional students.”
Historically the single most common uniform violation has been students wearing bottoms that are too short, generally at the Upper and Middle Schools. The updated policy reflects a change from fingertip length to mid-thigh or longer for shorts and skirts.
Please help ensure that students leave the house in uniforms that meet the length requirements. Teachers having to address uniform issues in the classroom is a distraction for everyone - and not a task that is enjoyed by anyone. Let’s work together to make uniform issues a non-issue this year.
If you haven’t had the chance to review the full policy, here is a key section that has been added:

Thank you for your continued support. |
8-2-22 Daily Wear TShirt Fundraiser
Good morning, Pine Lake families:
The Annual Daily Wear T-Shirt Fundraiser is available on MyPaymentsPlus. Donate any amount and your student will receive the t-shirt shown in the attached flyer that can be worn any day of the week during the 2022-2023 school year in place of the PLP uniform polo. All funds raised from this event will go towards off-setting the $600,000 funding gap PLP is tasked with raising each year due to inequities in charter school funding. The fundraising goal for the Daily Wear T-shirts is $60,000. Please see more details in the attached flyer.
Thank you for your consideration and your support! Please contact Anna.Drury@PineLakePrep.org with any questions.
7-29-22 Important Health Forms Required
Dear Pine Lake Families:
With summer break in full swing, we wanted to send a reminder that all health forms must be updated each year, as well as a reminder for immunization requirements. Immunization records are only required for Kindergartners, Seventh Graders, Seniors and All New Students. Please review the information that is required, in the letter found here:
If you have any further questions, please contact me via email at rebecca.long@pinelakeprep.org. We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus soon!

7-18-22 Important Attendance Information
I hope you and your family are enjoying your summer. As we approach August, we wanted to share a quick reminder about attendance during the first week(s) of school.
Attendance at the beginning of the school year is extremely important from an academic and operational perspective. Like all other public schools in North Carolina, funding for the year is determined by enrollment in the early days of the school year. Our annual budget is based on the assumption of full enrollment from the first day of school. We ask that you please support us in ensuring that all students are in attendance on the first day of school.
If a student does not attend school on the first day, and the principal has not been notified in advance in writing, he/she shall have the discretion to reassign that space to the next student on the waiting list. School officials will make every attempt to reach a family whose child is absent.
If the absence is not anticipated, families should contact the school immediately to prevent reassignment of their child's space.
Please note, even if the student has attended on the first day, he or she cannot be included in the school's head count if he or she subsequently misses 10 or more consecutive days in the first 20 days of school, unless these absences are excused. This is in accordance with the guidelines of the Student Information Management System administered by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. In other words, the state interprets such unexcused absences as if the student is no longer enrolled.
We appreciate your support and efforts to avoid absences in the first days of school. We look forward to seeing you in a few short weeks.

Upper School New York Trip : Informational Meeting August 18
START SPREADING THE NEWS...
We want to be a part of it,
New York, New York!
The Theatre department is hosting a trip to New York City in November! We will be leaving the school early in the morning on Thursday, November 17th and will be returning late in the evening on Monday, November 21st. The trip will include THREE Broadway shows, a lunch river cruise, Top of the Rock observation deck, Backstage tours, a hotel right in Times Square walking distance to most everything, and MUCH, MUCH more! We are still ironing out all of the small details but for your planning purposes the cost of the trip will be APPROXIMATELY $1550 for quad occupancy. (IF we have a full bus) We will be hosting an information meeting after school begins in August so be looking for information about that. At this meeting we will have a detailed itinerary and finalized pricing. We are only taking ONE bus so it is a limited trip! Start saving your money and get ready to go to the big apple with Mrs. Howard!
PS: This trip is open to all students in grades 9-12, not just those enrolled in Theatre classes.
