Biography:

I fell in love with teaching during my graduate studies at the University of Kansas. After a couple years as a university professor in south Florida, I knew I wanted to shift my career to focus more on teaching, in an environment conducive to forming strong relationships among teachers and students. Community is important to me in the classroom and in my personal life, and I was also ready to be closer to my family in Mooresville and Concord. I could not be happier to be part of the PLP community! Outside of school, I enjoy being, well, OUTSIDE! I'm an avid runner, lifelong equestrian, and animal lover, with a particular soft spot for senior pups and teeny kittens.

Ashley Hook

Ashley Hook
Degrees: Bachelor of Arts, K-12 Art Education and Painting , Bradley University
Locations: Upper
Departments: Fine Arts, Visual Arts
Biography:
The great artist (and personal hero of mine) Bob Ross once said, “Exercising the imagination, experimenting with talents, being creative; these things, to me, are truly the windows to your soul.” This quote illustrates one of my favorite things about being an art teacher, which is helping students discover the depth of the abilities and talents that reside inside them. So often, those skills are far beyond what they might expect or credit themselves with. Being surrounded by artmaking everyday also allows me the opportunity to see the many ways that art class serves as an outlet for not only creativity and imagination but also experimentation, perseverance,  and problem solving. You can connect with my students' artistic journeys on Instagram @artwithmrshook and by following the hashtag “plpart.” In my free time, I enjoy artmaking, hiking, cooking, running, exploring new places, and spending time with my husband and our three children.

Biography:

I have recently relocated to Mooresville with my husband, 2 teenage sons, and the family dog we rescued, Tater.  I am excited to get to meet the students and families of the Pine Lake Prep community.  Earlier in my career, I taught Chemistry at a community college for 9 years while working as an analytical scientist in the personal care and packaging industries.  After going into the education field full time I taught many science classes and the last 5 years which have been exclusively focused on AP Chemistry and Honors Chemistry.  As a teacher, I will work to ensure the classroom will be a safe space in which to develop our abilities.  We will actively exchange ideas while developing our critical thinking skills.  In the pursuit of growth, we will overcome challenges, develop resilience, and deal with setbacks and failures productively achieving mastery through practice.
