Biography:

I am originally from Seoul, Korea. When I was three years old, I started my first piano lesson and have loved music ever since. I earned my Bachelor’s of Church Music degree from Seoul Theological University, my Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Georgia State University in Atlanta, and my Ph.D in Music Education at Texas Tech University (TTU). My dissertation focused on the effect of singing gestures and student empowered instructions in choral rehearsal.

Prior to coming to PLP, I taught three undergraduate courses at TTU and I taught middle and high school classes in Texas and in Charlotte Mecklenburg for three years.

I live in Statesville with my husband (James) and my one year old daughter (Nora). I am extremely excited to join the Pine Lake Prep family.

As an educator in the field of visual arts, I feel that it is important that every individual finds their own way to self express themselves and to use that skill when moving forward in life's journey.

Biography:
I am the proud Mom to three amazing children, Madison, Tanner and Jayden. Watching my children play their sports is my favorite past time. I am a Carolina Tarheel's fan and bleed Carolina blue! In my free time, I enjoy getting out for a jog to think and re-energize. I also love to read; biographies and autobiographies are my favorite. This is my second year in the Upper School at Pine Lake. I feel blessed that working at Pine Lake isn't just a job but a community that I can feel proud to be a part of! “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

Biography:
I am entering into my 20th year of education. I am married and have two children, Teryn (Junior) and Jake (Freshmen), who also attend PLP. I am constantly telling my two kids to choose a job that they love going to and that will allow them to grow. I am lucky to have such a job. Teaching students brings me joy. I hope that I am able to teach my student(s) a life skill that will allow them to persevere and succeed as they move through the challenges of high school and life. In the process if they leave understanding and liking math a bit more, that would be the icing on the cake.
