Beyond the Classroom

With 20 varsity sports teams, dozens of clubs, honor societies, and other opportunities to learn and grow outside the classroom, Pine Lake Prep students can contribute to the campus and community in many ways.

Service Learning

All PLP Upper School students are required to complete 160 hours of service learning to create the habit of giving back to the community, and as part of our mission in preparing students for purposeful lives. To access the Learning through Service website, click below.

DECA at PLP

Pine Lake Preparatory DECA is the school’s largest student club, and in its four-year endeavor to improve business and marketing knowledge, as well as life skills for its members, it has profoundly impacted the school, students, and surrounding community. The club gives students hands-on experience in business, leadership, and communication skills, which carry far beyond the classroom. This year, DECA grew by nearly 50%, a reflection of the excitement it generates and the strong community it’s built among members. Not only does the club serve as a primary source of career and technical education for involved students, teaching them about marketing skills and business disciplines, but it also serves as an opportunity for students to serve the community around them, fostering a connection through service and amplifying the worldview of each individual involved in the club.

Pine Lake’s DECA chapter has earned a reputation for consistency and excellence at both the DECA MCEC and CDC competitions. Members have placed across multiple events, bringing home firsts, seconds, and thirds at MCEC and winning glass at CDC year after year. With a multitude of ICDC qualifiers and countless MCEC glass winners, in its young career, PLP DECA has established itself as a formidable team filled with tenacious and skilled competitors. These results come from a culture of preparation, teamwork, and mentorship that pushes every member to grow and compete at their best.

Beyond competition, the chapter stays grounded in service. This year’s car wash and PLP Soccer Concession stands fundraising efforts illustrate the group’s constant involvement in their community, which is further exhibited through the Samaritan’s Purse donation effort, showing how business skills can be used for impact, turning planning and promotion into real community support. Outside of the work with Samaritan’s Purse, the club provides constant alumni satisfaction and connection, giving students the opportunity to innovate, hear from business community leaders, and grow into well-rounded, skilled individuals. Though Pine Lake Preparatory’s DECA chapter has exhibited immense success, the club’s involvement in community-based endeavors proves that responsibility, collaboration, and giving back are values cornerstone to every person involved in and leading the club. Pine Lake Preparatory DECA continues to grow not only as a team of competitors but as a group of students ready to lead with purpose.
